The top of a home page: a headline, a line under it, and a button. Full width it can rotate up to five photos with no script; in a column it shows one. It belongs at the top of a page and full width, and the rows below show what happens when it is put anywhere else, so nobody has to guess.

Full width

One column across the page. The default, and what most of a site is.

Two equal columns

Half and half. Two things of equal weight, like in-house beside travel.

Wide + rail

Two thirds, then a third. The main thing on the left, something short on the right.

Rail + wide

A third, then two thirds. The rail leads; use it when the short thing matters first.

Three equal columns

Thirds. Three short things side by side. On a phone they stack in order.

Half + two quarters

A half, then two quarters. One main thing and two small ones beside it.
